Have you ever been in love? Horrible, isn’t it?
Well, here we are. My first post.
I guess I should start with a little bit about me, hmm?
I’m Kristen. I’m 22 years old, and I live in Elk Grove, CA. I’m currently going to school to be a court reporter, and it’s a lot of fun, even if I have a long way to go to graduate. I live at home, with my mother, stepfather, and our dog, Keiko.
I love to read, and I love movies. I play the flute, piano, accordian, bells, and a few other instruments, and I took tap classes for P.E. I was in drama and did quite a bit of work backstage as well as on. See, I went to a performing arts high school, so I have opinions on everything. That’s what this will mostly be, by the way. Book reviews, movie reviews, author pimpage…that sort of thing. And I’ll take any recommendations, too. :)

I guess I should start this off on the right foot, then. Last night I was lucky enough to go see ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ with a good friend. Now, I’m sort of anti-ALW; I still hate ‘Cats.’ But man…last night was amazing. The way the sets were done added a surreal touch to the scene.
It started off with the curtains angled, half-mast and dusty in the abandoned Opera Populaire. Once that chandelier lit up, though–it flew throug the air, the gray curtains disappeared, red and gold taking their places as Carlotta began to sing.
I was amazed. The whole show was just…perfect. The curtains would raise and lower to indicate different settings within the play, the lights would dim and flicker for the Phantom, and the orchestra wasn’t half bad, either. ;)
The cast was lovely, as well. And their voices were heavenly. The only time I wasn’t really digging it was during “Notes” and “Prima Donna,” because there were just too many voices. They sounded good, for sure, but it didn’t make any sense at all beyond pretty notes.
Also…I feel sorry for the Phantom. He can’t help his looks, and then Christine goes and leaves him…I cried a little. Of course, when Christine kissed him I could just see Raoul thinking ‘Geez, just raise the rope and kill me now!’ so I guess I just felt bad for them all.
If you haven’t seen Phantom on stage…you haven’t seen it. I admit to having been wary because of my past issues with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s work, but I’m a believer now. I’ve got to see the movie now–Gerard Butler as the Phantom? How did I miss this before?

I loved everything but those stupid people next to us. I’m so glad we got to go together!
