Say it loud and there’s music playing; say it soft and it’s almost like praying.
Don’t you love it when you wake up to find a great movie on tv?
West Side Story is on this morning. One of my favourite movies of all time. Maybe because it’s like Romeo and Juliet, only way better than Baz’s remake of 1990-whatever. In that one, Leo just doesn’t have a clue what’s coming out of his mouth. He’s like, “hmm, if I say it like this, it sounds good!” And then he opens his mouth and nothing makes sense because he doesn’t know crap about Shakespeare.
But WSS…that’s a movie. It’s got beautiful music, an amazing plot, and a horribly sad ending that makes me tear up every time.
And then there’s the fact that it still rings true today. The gang fighting and such…it’s the same today. The message holds as much weight now as it always has. I mean, some movies, they’re great because they show how things were, but it’s always nice to find something that still works in today’s society.
Oh, I hate this ending. Well, I love it, really, it’s just so sad. I hate that Tony had to die. And that Chino had to fire the gun. But maybe I’m just a hopeless romantic in that way. I want my happily-ever-after ending, however unlikely that may be.
